Perhaps the best thing you can do in terms of air conditioning maintenance is to regularly change the air intake filters. Even in a clean house or building the filters become really dirty. The more clogged with dust the filters are, the harder time the system has taking in air. As a result, the system works harder and cools less efficiently. If you can't get to the store to get a replacement air filter, then you can use the upholstery attachment to your vacuum cleaner and vacuum your old one off thoroughly.
The other main thing you can do in terms of air conditioning maintenance is to clear the outside fan of any leaves, dirt, or debris. Check your drain line to the outside and make sure that it is not obstructed and that condensate can exit the line freely. If you do these tasks once or twice a month, you can help ensure a long life for your air conditioning system.
