Air Conditioning Repair
It is extremely frustrating to wake up on the hottest day of the year, or go to your office one steamy summer morning only to find that the air conditioning system isn't working. Sometimes the explanation is simple and it's something that can be fixed easily. Other times, it takes a crew of repair people working for hours to get things straightened out.
At home, if your system stops working, check the obvious things first. Did a circuit breaker flip? Is the system set correctly in terms of "fan" "heat" or "a/c"? If you're not comfortable doing anything with the actual outdoor unit then you should definitely call in a professional so as not to risk your own safety.
If you check outside and the condensing fan motor doesn't run, you could have a bad capacitor or a bad motor. Check the fan blade. Is it stiff or hard to turn? If so, then you probably need a new motor.
If the unit won't start or won't stop, it is possible that bugs or dirt have come between the contactors for either the "on" or "off" position. You can use a can of compressed air to blow across the contactors to see if that solves the problem. For anything less obvious, it is only prudent to call in a professional.
