Split System Air Conditioning in Los Angeles

Homes across America are air conditioned using the "split System" type of air conditioner. This type of system utilizes an outdoor unit and an indoor air handler. This alleviates the need to have a "large box" called a package unit on the roof of your home. Split systems are more flexible to install and provide greater aesthetic appeal. We can service, install and maintain any split system A/C or heat pump. We are authorized installers of most major brands and can provide you with a complimentary proposal in your home.

Split System Air Conditioning

Split system air conditioning is a type of air conditioning that is useful when outfitting older houses that lack the space for duct work. Like a central system, split system air conditioning units have a compressor/condenser and an air handling unit containing a fan and an evaporator. The compressor and condenser are stored outdoors while the fan and evaporator unit are indoors in the area to be cooled. A conduit containing power cable, refrigerant tubes, and the condensate drain link the indoor unit with the one outdoors.

The main advantages of split system air conditioning units are their easy installation, quietness, and versatility. They eliminate loss of cool air passing through duct work as well. Hooking up a split system air conditioning unit only requires a small 7 to 8 cm hole in the wall for the conduit, and there is no duct work. These systems save energy since only occupied rooms need to be cooled, and each has its own thermostat.

The main disadvantage of split system air conditioning units is that they cost about 30% more than central systems and twice as much as window units of similar size. If the system is positioned improperly air can bounce off a wall or obstruction resulting in short cycling, which not only wastes energy, but does not provide enough cooling.
